January/Feb 2007 Three Asian SCBWI regions participated in TIBE 2007. SCBWI Taiwan hosted full-house sessions for both writers/illustrators and publishers, with guest speaker Nancy Mercado, Editor of Dial Books USA. On 1st Feb, RAs from Hong Kong (Mio), Taiwan (Kathleen Ahrens) and Tokyo, Japan (Holly Thompson) held a press conference, to speak about SCBWI's work in the region - highlighting some SCBWI success stories, such as Hong Kong's Sophie Paine, whose interest in children's books caused her to join SCBWI HK, and eventually led to her publishing her first book, which she both wrote and illustrated. |

Launch of bilingual picture book, "Are You My Mummy / Es-Tu Mon Papa?" |
SCBWI writer/illustrator Sophie Paine is pleased to announce the launch of her new bilingual double-sided picture book, "Are You My Mummy / Es-Tu Mon Papa?" (published by MCCM Creations). The book, charmingly illustrated with watercolours, gives the reader two books in one – the English story tells the tale of a little boy living in England, who wonders why, when all "my friends at school have a Mummy... I don’t have a Mummy, I have a Maman." The mirror story follows the same boy, now living in France, comparing the differences between his English father and the "Papas" of all of his friends.
Please join Sophie at the launch of the book:
